Starting at Geddington School

Getting ready for school

In the term before a child begins school –
  • The Reception Class Teacher conducts home visits to get to know the child and parents in familiar surroundings.
  • On Transfer day in July children are invited to spend some time in the Reception class enabling the children to familiarise with their new environment before September. Parents are welcome to stay with their child if they feel necessary to help their child settle.
  • In July, parents come to the induction evening at 7.00pm in the School Hall to find out important information.

For the first few days in September, children attend school on a part time basis to build their confidence and to enable the children to make a successful start to their full time education. Our Reception teacher, Mrs Hunt, will advise you of the structure of this prior to the beginning of the Summer holidays. The children will then attend full time as long as parents and teachers consider the child is ready.

All children in Reception Class and Key Stage One are entitled to Universal Free School Meals.
